President's Report
Dear AGA Montgomery Chapter,
I hope this year was as fun for you as it was to me. The moments we've shared together are immeasurable. I want to thank everyone that has supported my vision and that have made an effort to make this year a success. I want to also give a special thank you to the members that have advised and consulted me.
The public sector is changing rapidly and we need to step to these obstacles head on. Let's continue to face the challenges of government accountability and press forward with our call to service. We've made long strides but we still have a long way to go.
I am extremely excited to serve under our new President, Latreeka Williams. Her vision for AGA will take the chapter to great heights. I want to encourage everyone to make an effort to support her and her officers as we move into the 2019-2020 year.
It was an honor and privilege to serve as your president. I will see you soon at our next event! #TeamAGA

Courtney E. Bruce, AGA Montgomery Chapter President 2018-2019
Making EVERY Member Matter
Article
A Few Minutes with the
2019-2020 Montgomery AGA President Latreeka D. Williams

What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?
Humility. As a leader, you have to be humble. I believe the characteristic of being humble lays the foundation to developing other great leadership characteristics including appreciation, thankfulness and gratitude. When you are humble, you truly appreciate the group that you lead, you are thankful for their efforts, and you are motivated to show gratitude for everything they do.
When did you get involved in AGA?
I joined AGA in 2002.
What is your vision for AGA under your 2019-2020 presidential tenure?
The theme for the 2019-2020 year is “TEAM AGA”. I want our members to feel special, to feel appreciated and to feel like they truly are a part of TEAM AGA. Without our members, there would be no Montgomery Chapter of AGA. Our chapter or TEAM is comprised of so many diverse, unique and wonderful members…each one bringing something special to our team. I have met so many wonderful people and made new friends, contacts and acquaintances through AGA. This year, I want to encourage our members to take full advantage of their AGA membership---participate in the trainings, the meetings, the webinars, and most of all—get to know your fellow team members. National AGA provides us with a great arsenal of professional tools and resources but sometimes we overlook the resources we have locally. I strongly believe that our team of members is a valuable resource that we should take full advantage of…network with one another, get to know your team, support the team and together, TEAM AGA, can continue to grow and become the best AGA Chapter we can be! I am super excited about the events we have planned for this term. We are planning lots of fun and interactive activities that will allow our members to network and become a stronger team.
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
Downtime?? That is almost non-existent in my life! I really enjoy the basic things in life…spending time with family and friends and just enjoying life. It can be as simple as having coffee with friends to taking an extended vacation with my family members! You can never replace time with family and friends.

Community Service

Year after year, we always look forward to taking the children from Montgomery Children’s Specialty Center to the Montgomery Zoo. Members of AGA volunteered a few hours to bring children who have various disabilities to the zoo. The kids were able to see the lions, giraffes, elephants, and even snakes! We all enjoyed getting out and the kids all had a really fun time.
