Committee Functions
Accountability: The Committee encourages federal, state and local government entities to publish high quality, informative Citizen Centric Reports (CCR), helping governments communicate better with their citizens. The committee also encourages the chapter to produce CCRs for their members and potential members and to promote citizen-centric reporting as a valuable accountability and communications tool. (Defined by AGA Nationals)
Accounting: This committee is responsible for the Accounts Receivables function for the local chapter. Duties include preparing invoices for various chapter events and sending the invoices to members, agencies, and other parties responsible for payment.
Audit Chair: This position is responsible for the internal audit function of the Montgomery AGA Chapter. There duties would include maintain procedures and audit programs to provide a continuous review of the finances of the Chapter. The Chair will have access to all financial records and supporting documents and will report directly to the President. The Chair will communicate any issues or discrepancies to the president and will provide an update annually (in April) to the CEC Board including recommendations on internal controls or the financial process.
Awards and Sponsorship: This committee contributes to speaker gifts and giveaways to members. Solicits to companies and business for gifts, gift cards, or monetary donation. Sponsorship can also be donations to a charity of the speaker’s choice.
Careers Chair: One of the key benefits of AGA is networking and career development and growth. This position is responsible for monitoring job openings in the Montogmery area and posting them, with assistance of the AGA Webmaster, to the Montgomery Chapter Website.
Community Service: This committee is responsible for planning all Community Service events for the chapter. This committee will work with other committees to plan and coordinate a variety of Community Service events.
Communications/Webmaster: This committee is responsible for sending emails, newsletters and other electronic communications as well as updating the information on the chapter website to ensure it is accurate and up-to date. [email protected]
CGFM: This committee encourages members to become Certified Government Financial Manager® (CGFM®). Responsible for celebrating CGFM Month in March, which includes receiving State, City, and Local Government Proclamations. They educate our members what is CGFM and encourage members with study guides and/or groups. Also add to the newsletter when applicable.
Education Committee: A major goal of the AGA Montgomery Chapter is providing its members access to up-to-date information and training focusing on Audit, Accounting, Information Technology, and personal development. This committee is responsible for contacting and recruiting speakers for the AGA Fall Conference, Spring Conference, and monthly lunch learn events.
Historian/Records Retention: The Historian is responsible for archiving and organizing various documents. The Historian will work with other committees to ensure that all documents that need to be archived and stored are done so electronically.
Meetings and Registration: Responsible for assisting with sign-in sheet at in-person meetings for CPE credits. Virtually, sets up meeting through Star Chapter to be published on the website. Assist members and nonmembers with registering for monthly meetings, events, and PDTs.
Membership Committee: The Montgomery AGA Chapter is a division of the National Association of Governmental Accountants. AGA supports and is a advocate for professionals working in federal, state and local governments as well as the private, nonprofit and academic sectors. The AGA Montogmery Chapter has over 300 members/ 15,000 nationwide. The membership committee’s primary functions include meeting current member needs, maintaining active member accounts, and recruiting new members. The membership committee serves as ambassadors of AGA by coordinating membership appreciation events and communicating the benefits of AGA membership to include continuous education, leadership development, opportunities to serve the community, and networking opportunities with leaders in the river region.
Scholarships: This committee handles scholarships for high school and college students. The scholarships awards vary on the budget and on how many students participate. The committee handles advertising chapter scholarship opportunities, scholarship application and review process, and scholarship awards. The committee starts their duties at the beginning of the year, and runs through April. Recipients will receive their awards at the Awards Program in May.
Photography: This committee takes photo at chapter events and selects digital copies to forward to the president and Webmaster for inclusion on the website and newsletters.
